“That Is A Joke” – Pundit Slams 26 y/o’s Performances & Questions Spurs Summer Decision

|

The right back conversation at Tottenham Hotspur is certainly not new. With plenty of fans having doubts about Kieran Trippier following his performances last season, a number hoped that Serge Aurier would step up to the plate when we failed to sign a replacement, but in the eyes of many, the Ivorian has simply gone from bad to worse.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino appears to have decided to favour Juan Foyth for the position now, but he’s been hampered with his injury (on top of the early suspension) and we saw some promise from Kyle Walker-Peters, until he also picked up an injury.

Speaking to The Express this week as Spurs gear up for our return to Premier League action against Watford this weekend, former player and now pundit, Jermaine Jenas, pulled absolutely no punches when it came to questioning the decision to let Trippier move on, and it was clear where he laid the blame.

“You have a keeper who is constantly making mistakes. A right-back situation that is a joke. They let Kieran Trippier leave, of all players. I don’t care what sort of season he had last year because he was playing injured for the whole year. Who at that football club, whether it be Pochettino, who I do think had a part to play in it, or the chairman, they’ve allowed a top right-back to leave and left themselves with Walker-Peters and a guy in Serge Aurier, who should not play for the club again because he is a liability.”

Whether Foyth can make the position his own, or whether KWP takes it is open for debate, but surely Aurier must have burnt his bridges now, as there are those who feel he simply cannot return after the Southampton sending off and the Bayern Munich showing.
